WHAT HAPPENED AT THE ICA?

Edith Barretto Stevens Parsons (1878-1956) was an American artist who studied with Daniel Chester French (1850-1931, famous for the sculpture of Abraham Lincoln in the Lincoln Memorial. Parsons also studied at the Arts Students League in New York. In a time when sculptural themes were intended to be serious, Parsons made a name for herself an delighted the public with sculptures like Frog Baby that evoked a sense of joy, youth, and mirth.  When Frog Baby was brought to ICA's attention the sculpture already suffered from corrosion. The corrosion products were removed from the surface followed by a thorough rinsing of the sculpture and a new patina was created.
