Fine Art Courier Services

The ICA recommends the use of courier services for transporting high value and/or fragile pieces, particularly when the handling of the object requires special supervision and guidance.  We offer “door to door” fine art courier services in which a conservator or registrar travels with an object at all times.  ICA couriers can also oversee installation and de-installation of artwork.  Condition checking—prior to departure and upon arrival—can be supplied as needed.

Local and short distance shipment can also be provided by ICA laboratory technicians.  For long distance shipments, an external shipping company with extensive experience in shipping fine art is sub-contracted.  The ICA recommends using trucks outfitted with alarm systems, air-ride shocks, and climate-controlled cargo areas.  During long distance shipments, two drivers share driving responsibilities and ensure that one driver remains with the vehicle at all times.
